There are a lot of differing opinions on this. Here is what I have found and observed. All but the last WDs had the straight shift handle. The transmission had some major internal changes at the same point when the curved shifter came along also.
The side plate on the engine is also accurate in that the original WD engine had one and the WD45's didn't. However alot of those engines have been changed out over the years. I will add that D17 and E gleaner engines are pretty much a drop in also.
I will argue with the snapcoupler statement in that those have been added also and it was a option on the WD45 (I have one without).
Won't argue about the traction booster guage as I don't know that one myself. However I beleive that they all had the traction booster just not sure as to the guage.
The only sure way I could tell you as to how to check would be the serial number. It is stamped on the back of the left rear brake housing. Alot of times it is somewhat faint. If the serial number is on the center of the rearend pumpkin housing you have a WC. Just check the number against the serial numbers list in Research and Info over to the left. I will try to inclde it also.
