i bet ya burned up the points just cause they are opening dont mean they are good i would take a emery file and file the devil out of the points first. you can take a test light and connect the alagator clip to the post on the dist. and put the other end on the positive side of the battery then crank the engine with the switch off the test light should go off and on every time the points open and close if it does go on-off its not the points
