The 12 valve 5.0 Cummins I-6 has about 40% fewer moving parts that the 7.3 (or whatever) Ford IH Power Stroke V-8. BUT, the Cummins has almost twice as much main bearing surface area!. The crankshaft weights 150 lbs. The TDR (Turbodieselregister.com)page is full of accounts of these little engines running a million miles & over between overhauls. The Cummins is EPA rated on the engine data plate as Medium duty, whereas the Ford is rated light medium duty. Ford did at one time own about 10% of Cumming stock, but has since sold it. They do have an agreement with Ford to supply engines for Ford's MEDIUM DUTY trucks, not pickups. Cummins will continue to supply engines to Dodge for at least the next five years. If any of you out there have 94 or up 12 valve Dodge Cummmins, you can upgrade the pump for HP gains up to 300 HP in about an hour, for about $300.00. see this address. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/Links.htm#13
