When I joined the Marine Corps in 1953, weed and pest control was done with crop rotation and cultivation. By the time I left the Corps in 1963, chemicals had taken over. Any young farmer who wanted to be considered progressive thoroughly doused his crops with all the latest chemicals. Personal protection from the effects of the chemicals was given no thought.
Now, those same farmers, in their 50's, 60's and 70's are dying wholesale from all sorts of wierd cancers.
