The alternator on my 1979 Ford 1700 is not charging properly so I took it to the local autoparts store to be tested. They determined the alternator was the same as a 76 Nissan Pickup truck with a 4 cyc 2.0L engine. Looks just like the original one on my Ford 1700. The repair book i have states this alternator came in a 20 amp and 35 amp. The alternator the parts store is reccomending is a 35 amp style. How do I tell what amperage my original non-working alternator is and does it matter if it is a 20 or 35 amp? My original alternator part number is a Hitachi LT120-07 and the parts store wants to sell me a Duralast 14105. Any help would be greatly appriecated.
