I just looked back and you mentioned the input shaft, more than likely there will be some scaring on the tip if it is badly worn there is a kit to repair it and it works out good. I installed one on my brothers work truck when we found out the new shaft and repair was alot the kit was around $60 and has been on for about 2 years with the truck being used to pull heavy trailers and equipment.I will have to find the info again but I should be able to find it again.
