I know that UPS is expensive. I ship almost every thing UPS as it is impossible for me to answer the phone to take orders and drive 10 miles to the post office that closes at noon.
UPS driver drives up to my dock and loads all packages by himself and will wait or come back if I have a late order that needs to go out that day. We have several orders that ill need to go out next day a month. Our post office will sell my the over night stamp but does not offer the service. If I want anything to go over night I would have to drive over 20 miles to a post office that does offer the over night service.
Every manufacturer or parts service will not be located in a city where UPS and the post office would be on even ground service wise. If you would have to be charged for the extra help to receive the lower shipping cost then the extra persons cost would have to be added to the parts. Or not, and the people they already have employed could be looking for other work.
Remember what ever the postage or the tax will always ultimetly be paid by the consumer.
