My grand daddy, gone some 30 years now, gave me his model 1897 Winchester pump 12 guage when I was about 16- a fine old long stroke pump gun with blueing so worn it almost looks like it's stainless. It wasn't until years and years later that I discovered the whittled piece of wood he put in it to limit it to the legal 3 shot limit- carved like a totem pole with faces and squares and spheres.
