Thought I'd do some math for you. A 42" deck on 1.5 acres requires 18,700 feet of driving to mow (assuming no overlaps). That's 3.5 miles of mowing. Given that no lawn is 42" wide and 4 minles long, you can count turning and the like in there. It's going to take over an hour to mow something like that. I'd go with at least a 48" deck. I've seeen some of those TSC or Sears mowers with 50 or more inch decks. Think youcould even get a 60" deck on one. Maybe one of those pull behind units that mows off to one side. Point is, as often as city people (no offense) mow lawns and as much as they want them to look like the 18th green of Augusta, thats a LOT of time on an uncomfortable seat. Go as big as you can and cut the seat time, unless you like bouncing around with some loud vibrating mower underneith. As for quality, they are all made by MTD anyway, so I don't know that it matters for anything cheaper than a Cub Cadet or John Deere. Aaron
