Are the wheels coming off? Nope. I still see just as many big trucks and SUVs used to commute to work with one person in the driver's seat... along with jet boats and jet skis on the Colorado River, driving back and forth for the sake of driving back and forth - no real purpose whatsoever. Beyond that, there are the toybox campers loaded with racing four-wheelers and dirt bikes to go out in the middle of the desert and play. Again, burning fuel for the sake of burning fuel really.
Also, at the grocery store or gas stations I hear people constantly complaining about the price of fuel, yet they have money for a carton of smokes and a case of beer (or three!). One day a guy was complaining and I asked if his case of beer was necessary - he got pretty angry real quick!
Obviously we are getting to a point where many of us have to choose between "wants" and "needs." I haven't gone to a movie since Christmas, and before that I can't remember how long it was. We used to purchase a DVD almost once a week, I think we've purchased one in the last three months now. We used to go for drives to see the scenery and kill some time on weekends, don't do that anymore, period.
We have had to adjust our lifestyle, and are still living comfortably enough for the occasional "splurge" but it sure doesn't amount to what it was a year ago!
I agree with the statement that the chickens have come home to roost and it's time for people who foolishly over-extended their credit to pay the price.

A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
