I would submit that David Browns are not bad tractors, but they are owner's tractors, not a machine for casual hired labour to beat on. I would also say that the horsepower ratings of these tractors got them in trouble as well. When the 1410 appeared,as well as Leyland 270's, they were advertised as having 80 hosepower, well not the Leyland. But the 1410's were put to work with five furrow ploughs, and two row harvesters and 15 foot discs, and they would not stand it. The 1410 was talked up as an equivalent to an 870 Case, and it just plain wasn't. But for a lot of guys that paid attention to maintenance and size of loads and made sure that the operators didn't beat them up got along just fine. A fellow next to us had a succession of DB's, put thousands of hours and did well. But loads that would make a Deere or an IH smoke a lot would blow the guts out of a DB. My observations. I'm sure there are lots of guys who worked these things really hard and got along well. Tom
