A friend of mine wanted 3 4X5 rolls of hay from me to winter his 2 donkeys. He wanted me to deliver it and drop a roll in the pasture every six weeks. Not in a feeder, just out on the ground to let them eat and waste what they wanted to. Surprisingly enough, he was right. They would eat a roll every six weeks and wasted very little of it. It was always fun to take a new roll to the pasture. They would fight over that big roll of hay for an hour before they would settle down and start eating. One on one side and one on the other would not do them. They circled round and round biting each other on the rear end until they got tired and would finally settle down and eat.
