It should not take nothing as some ding bat hooked it up wrong . But you did not say gas of diesel . As if it is a diesel then it should have two 6 volt batterys and the battery on the right side of the tractor the ground goes to ground and the pos. cable goes to the ground of the battery on the left side with the pos . cable to the starter. IF a gasser then one 12 volt battery mounted on the right side and here again pos cable to the starter and ground to ground.
