Hello Paul from Mn. A volt meter would be a better choice to monitor battery state of charge.It is more important to know that your 6 V. battery has at lest 6.3 volts while the lights are on. Charging voltage should be at least 7V. The amp meter is just an indication of charge current while a volt meter is an indication of battery state of charge. Guido.
