I still remember the unique rattle that tin cover had; we had 2 "Fs" in the mid-70s 'til sometime in the 80s, one bought new and the other used. My Dad sold his when he quit farming; swapped mine for a L2. Could never figure out.....still don't know; factory original parts would last a long time; replacement parts would never last as long. Ours were both variable-speed/traction drive or whatever the correct terminology was (not hydro-stat). Weakest part of the machine was the input clutch shaft bearings; whittled the frame with a torch just a tiny amount so you could get that heavy sucker out without removing the wheel. After the original failed, they were good for about 2 years; we kept an 'extra' at the shop, ready to be installed. Combines been gone 20-something years; that 'extra' is still somewhere at the shop.......
