dies after starting

I've been having a problem with my Farmall lately. The tractor starts with a hand crank -- starts each time on the first or second pull. The problem is that once it's started it runs for about two seconds and then dies. The strange thing about it when it dies is that it doesn't sputter or seem to choke -- it just dies -- almost like it's shorted out but the tractor doesn't have an additional electrical past the mag and spark plug wires. Does anyone have an idea what might be going wrong??? Thanks in advance,
