Just had a 06 Monte Carlo brought in to me at work that the owner claimed it had used 1/2 tank to go about 10 miles and a check engine light on. Found no fuel leaks. If that much fuel had been through the engine, the oil would be diluted with gas. No gas in the oil. The check engine light was a P0446 large evap leak detected. 95% of the time I see that code it was someone forgot to put the gas cap back on. That evap code has absolutely no effect on driveability. About all we could come up with is a gas thief left the cap off, or someone borrowed the car and didn't tell the owner.
