I havent had to have a locking gas cap on my vehicle since I was 18. The 1 ton had over 1/2 tank yesterday, this am I ran down to get the paper(ok I drove, it's a half mile and the weather sucks) anyway... mt truck was almost on empty. Hound was in the garage all night so he wouldnt have heard or seen anything. Didnt see any tracks with this snow. Geez. Even in times of desperation all one has to do is ask for some help, not steal. Time to put the game cams all back out. First t-post now gas. $4 posts and $3.50 gas, I dont think they realize that cost me $150.

They will punch the gas cap if you have a locking cap now.I keep very little gas in my truck and tractor.Just put in enough for the trip and add a gallon to make sure you get home. When the crooks figure you never have much gas they will go elswhere.Same goes for cash money, dont let anyone see a lot of cash in your wallet.

Hmm? How old's the truck? The reason I ask is my '96 Dodge has anti-syphon check valve where the filler meets the tank. The reason that I know it, had almost a full tank when the in-tank fuel pump quit and I had to change it. Had a full tank, 35 gallons so I tried to syphon it so I could lower the tank. My syphon hose hit that check or anti-syphon valve, and that was the end of that. My brother and I had to muscle that thing down. Was a bear too. I have to imagine my '02 has one too.

Yep, things are getting tough in Ky too, my brother left a massege last night; his barbed wire fence(new) had been stolen! Don't ask me I just told you more than I know.

thats becoming a real problem here too, i take "late nite strolls" around our place when possible, just to check things out, im not too bad as the vehicles and tractors are in kind of a hole, and one would have to pass the house to get to them, also my ol' redbone can hear a mouse break wind at 50 yards, your probably right on the battery these low life sometimes carry around a 12v pump with several feet of fuel line and a set of jumper cables to hit quick and quiet

Yep, I had the backhoe sitting about 100 yds from the road the other night when I finished digging and I left it overnight. Went back the next evening to bring it up to the yard and put it away and the battery was stone dead and not more than a quart of gas in the tank. Was over 1/2 full the night before. I don't know why the battery was dead unless they had a pump of some kind to suck out the gas?

Now that's criminal they not only stole your gas but used your battery to do it. BUMMER.

I hate to see this we have been pretty lucky out here in rural Oregon but I lost a cow last month and my neighbor lost a new born calf.

Walt

PS I hope they choke on that meat or get E-coli or some other bad disease.

Hey, that brown cow that had that black calf yesterday is a very trusting cow. Shes not one to let me even touch her, but this am that calf had wandered out side and was wet and cold. She let me walk up check out the calf and guide it back into the lean shelter, all she did watch and walk along. Then in the shelter I scratched the little calves chin and cheeks for 10 minutes with a towel on her to soak the wetness outa her hide and mama just laid down and watched. What a pleasant surprise.

Just had a 06 Monte Carlo brought in to me at work that the owner claimed it had used 1/2 tank to go about 10 miles and a check engine light on. Found no fuel leaks. If that much fuel had been through the engine, the oil would be diluted with gas. No gas in the oil. The check engine light was a P0446 large evap leak detected. 95% of the time I see that code it was someone forgot to put the gas cap back on. That evap code has absolutely no effect on driveability. About all we could come up with is a gas thief left the cap off, or someone borrowed the car and didn't tell the owner.
