Did he bid higher than the scrap value? If not the other farmer was actually making money on the purchase. Sound business sense.
If he did bid higher than the scrap, he could just as easily made a trip to the scrap yard and purchased the equipment from them. I have never seen a scrap yard that wasn't willing to sell items before they cut them up.
Business is business and I have seen a lot of people pissed of at loosing auctions to scrap dealers. Scrap prices are high and many pieces of equipment now have a higher scrap value than they do a retain value. Its just a hard idea to swallow.
