We have dump sites in the city here where they use large cats (D8's) to push the snow up into huge piles to make room for more. It takes a long time to melt but it does eventually. I think they reclaim the sand and small gravel used on ice after it melts. I don't know if they're 80 ft. high but they are huge. Dave
