I was listening to a talk radio program last night and this guy had some hard to believe tales about how much snow you folks have.

One story was about some city that had a pile of snow 80 feet high. They claimed that they would have to break up the pile later this spring so it would be melted by next winter.

How about some snow reports?

thanks

Went to the farm show in Toronto a month ago, at that point the snow pile at Pearson Airport was at least 80' high. They're fairly limited for room to put the snow they take off the runways, too expensive to truck it away, so they were pushing it up with a big dozer and two excavators. I sure wouldn't have wanted to be the guy with the excavator at the top of it.

Here in Southeast BC we have had about a 30 ft. snowfall this year, i still have snow about 2 and a half feet deep on my lawn, more where it is piled. That 80 ft. pile you were talking about is where city crews hauled and dumped snow from clearing city streets. Most Cities i know off up here have snowdumps around the cities nowadays as the public want clearer streets. Most snow would be melted by summer, i,m at the 3300 ft. level in the Canadian Rockies and the snow on the mountains even higher up than me is usually all gone by early July.Today i awoke to two inches of new snow and it is snowing hard now and suppose to continue all weekend, nice spring huh, lol.

In northwest Wisconsin we are way below average, got to ride snowmobile 3 times this year, not enough snow for that even, southern part of state has been getting it all , hope the pattern changes soon as we are in our fifth year of drought and the hay crops have only been 25 percent of normal.

Here in Iowa we have some 20 foot high piles.

We still have snow on the ground after melting for 5 or 6 days also. Most of what is left is drifted snow.

I dug out a 4 foot drift to move the cattle to another lot just yesterday.

We had our 3rd most recorded snow year here this year. And we are about to make it 2nd. Only need 6 more inches.

Gary

I'm just 20 minutes westof Ottawa and we have had lots snow.405cm so far. We had a thaw in Jan and alot of the snow melted than. The snow dumps in the city are full. They use a blower that will blow it 80 ft high and there are piles that high. I'll try and get some pictures of the snow dumps around here.We just got over 80ccm in the last week in two storms from our friends in Texas. Thanks alot.We are just short of our all time high record of 422cm back in 1970. still more to come they say.

Our local ski mountain om west coast, Mt. Washington resort snow report this AM. 394 CM base of snow mid mountain which in regular mesurment is 13.13 feet of snow. That's not piled, that's accumilated on the ground. In 04 or 05 it was at a record 30 feet accumilation. Had to use excavators and dump trucks to clear roads and find doors to chalets. That winter down at sea level we had something like 8 feet of rain, up high just snow. Global warming?

We have dump sites in the city here where they use large cats (D8's) to push the snow up into huge piles to make room for more. It takes a long time to melt but it does eventually. I think they reclaim the sand and small gravel used on ice after it melts. I don't know if they're 80 ft. high but they are huge. Dave

The guy with the 80 foot high snow pile is pulling your leg. No one piles snow that high, and even if you did it wouldn't last all summer. Our temperatures do get into the high 80's and low 90's F. Western Canada has had a normal amount of snow and most of it will be gone in a week or so. There's a fair amount in the trees, a couple of feet or so, but our paved roads bone dry. Eastern Canada is another story. They've had an abnormal amount of snow in the last month, in the Toronto and Montreal area,in some cases 25 or so inches at a time. Their weather gets warmer sooner so it won't last long.

Yes. We have tons of it. None of it has really thawed yet although it's finally starting to warm up. I'm not sure how you would get 80 in one pile but we have lots of 10 foot piles all over the place. Even the 10 foot piles can take till June to melt sometimes.

I'm here on the east coast of Lake Huron. We've had three thaws and rains that removed most of the snow. There are no snowbanks along the road. And grass on my lawn is showing through the snow in places.

In NB we've had about 14 ft of snowfall where I am, up north a couple of hours about 20 ft and no melt. 2 hours south at the ocean, bare ground.

I've got 10-15 ft piles around the yard. I've seen some 30-40 footers at malls. Some malls have a third of their parking gone due to snow piles growing faster than they can haul it away. Many 4 lanes roads in town are down to two lanes because they lost the bank ie the plows couldn't push it up or back any higher.

We've had two big melts so far or else things would be really out of hand.

No. Not in SW Manitoba, anyway. What little snow we had mostly melted in two days. Winnipeg does have a few places where they stock pile what they clean off the steets. The lake I ice fish on has been easy driving for a 2WD drive all winter, it does however have 44 inches of ice.

Here in "Good Ole Alberta" and east of the Rockies we have had an average of 1.5 to 2 feet of snow over the winter. Almost all gone at this point in the Central part of the Province. Could use more for the moisture. The "Oil Boom" continues on here no matter how much snow we receive. Ellis
