Take 2 pieces of #9 wire that are about 30 inches long and bend them in half. Hold the wires out in front of you (one in each hand) with the wires pointing forward, your hands at about chest level and your arms straight out in front of you, shoulder-width apart, the bend in the wire about an inch above your hand. When you cross a water vane the wires will cross on their own. Easy.
We have 3 functioning wells, and at least one more that has been capped. (That one would go dry if you pumped it too fast.)
