Cornpickers were indeed one of the greatest hazards to farmer"s hands. Lots of old one handed farmers. Wife"s uncle was one. Lost left arm almost to the shoulder as a teenager. He was a very productive fellow with only the remaining arm. It did a lot to shape his later life. Never married, I think because he was afraid that he wasn"t acceptable to the gals. Truly was a sad situation, but he made the best of it that he could.
