I thought that the rod had to be shortened to bring free play back in line as the disk wears... Assuming that free play is correct, split it and find the problem. It could be the pinch bolt in the clutch cross shaft, a bad pilot or release bearing, or mabey the clutch itself. Dig in and find out...
