I've drilled about a zillion holes with a skidsteer auger. With the construction industry on the low side right now you should be able to get a good deal on a used factory built unit.
A three point auger is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. I remember years ago having one on a JD 300B. Worthless and slow, only slightly better than digging by hand.
If you get a factory unit not only will it be engineered to do the job but you can also push yourself out if you get stuck. As with any skidder, go in forward so you can push yourself out. Good luck.
