Around here most mowing is on hillsides that the most of you all wouldn't put a tractor on . And you are right hitting a metal post that some one left sticking out of ground can be hard on eqpt . The person you are doing work for don't pay for damage to your eqpt the last time coust me $500 plus two days . My tractor uses Less 1/2 GPH . If they don't wan't to pay what you ask yhey can let grass grow .
