I would want a bare mimimum of 100 an hour, and probably more.... I'm charging 50 an hour for 40-50 hp 3 cylinder tractors and 70 an hour for the 70-100 hp 4 cylinders. That's not enough to make anything at it, especially on the demanding jobs. I know of people that chrge less and I simply can't understand why they bother. It's costing them money unless they're just putzing around not working the gear to capacity...

Personnally if you are going to do 1 to 10 acres that way to much tractor. I would get a 30 Hp tractor that lean on fuel to make money you need to be as cheap as you can but not so cheap that ou are not making a decent wage on top of your cost.

If how ever you have a 12 or 15 ft. triple brush hog then you are Ok.

I charge $40 an hour for a 1715 Ford/New Holland 27 HP FWD With a 5' Kingkutter . mowing grass , weeds & small bushes - No large brush. Around here most mowing is on hillsides that the most of you all wouldn't put a tractor on . And you are right hitting a metal post that some one left sticking out of ground can be hard on eqpt . The person you are doing work for don't pay for damage to your eqpt the last time coust me $500 plus two days . My tractor uses Less 1/2 GPH . If they don't wan't to pay what you ask yhey can let grass grow .

It depends on size and type of site, 85.00 per hour is my cheapest per hour rate. Per acre rate is 25.00 per, I have got as much as 55.00 per acre on a rough 20 acre patch with lots of corners, six hours and going back down the road, real sweet. 7320 JD and 15' cutter

You charged 55 dollars times 20 acres and finished in 6 hours? That is 183 dollars per hour. That is outrageous. If you were around here, when the word got out about your charges, you would be out of work. When you don't teat people fairly, the word always gets out. That is way more that a Cat high-sprocket D-6 gets per hour. Tom

A lot of what I get asked to bushhog should have a cat dozer run over it first. I charge 50$ an hour plus tax and I don't dawdle, unless really rough ground, diesel is up a lot this summer so it will probably be near 60$.

I've hit cinder blocks, a fridge door, and all the normal stuff.

He told the customer the flat rate would be $1100. $55 per acre times 20 acres. Would you feel better if he worked real slow so his per hour compensation would be less yet his gross would be the same?

I agree-I paid a guy $70/hour for a D4 cat dozer work he was there 8 hours or so. (done 7 years ago for gravel spreading) If you rip off people you are out of business real quick.

I went from 35 to 50 bucks 2 years ago. One breakdown can cost a thousand dollars or more. Lots of folks have told me that there was nothing laying in their fields. Well I hit a whole roll of number 9 woven wire once and strpped the splines out of my stump jumper.

Don't do it for nothing, as you can sit on the porch and make that. I don't see how these guys are doing it for 20 or 25 dollars, that is crazy.
Just figure at 2 gallons of fuel per hour, and your time is worth 25 dollars, so that wouldn't leave anything for your machinery and parts, grease, oil and what have you.

I hear you about the crap left in the weeds George. I cut a yard with my B6100 Kubota and L59 mower here in town that hadn't been mowed for a year and got that story. Cost me an $80 belt, a new set of $35 blades and an afternoon to get the parts and put them on, after I hit a washing machine motor several big rocks and an old pipe dog stake sticking up, a bike wheel not to mention all the trash these meth head losers left in the yard when they moved out including the old phone line from the house that got wound up around all 3 spindles, it was that tough copper plated steel stuff and I liked to never got that out. That was just the stuff I didn't find after walking the lot first. I did get lucky though and the old lady I cut it for graciously offered to pay for the repairs! Apparently the losers told her it was all cleaned up and she wasn't able to go check herself. That was before I got my M and bushog which I charge $100 an hour for now, plus cleanup time and hidden obstical damage fees which includes gas to get parts, parts and time to repair @30 an hour. Funny how when you mention that, they show you were all the things you might hit are like old half burried foundations, well covers, chunks of mine track clothes line posts and the like.

Yep, that stump jumper cost 849 bucks. I got off easy though I finally found a new hub, and just cut the old one out, and welded the new in. The day after I hit that roll of wire, that man had enough nerve to come up here and want me to just with the center sand other wing for 10 foot cut. Swore there was nothing else there. Said he forgot about the roll of wire. I told him to take a flying leap since he didn't want to pay for my stump jumper.

I would not unload a lawn mower for less than $50.00 hour and that is a $10,000 mower, With fuel at $3.50 a gallon, and a tractor burning 2-3 gallon per hour, plus depreciation of tractor and mower and your time I would get between $75.00-$100.00 an hour or I would not do it. Before you can set a price, you need to know what it costs to own equipment, what it costs to run it, including fuel, maintenance, upkeep, man hours, depreciation, etc. Then you have your cost to do it, then add 20% for profit, and there is your price to do the job.

I would charge $30 to show up if it is 30 minutes or more away from you and then $30/hour plus fuel costs. Do you have insurance?

I have two friends that brush hog in a team. They get $25.00 and hour each on a field. That is here in mid Missouri.

That's too cheap considering what fuel cost and the wear and tear on the equipment is. I got $50.00 for mowing off part of the neighbor's property that hadn't been mowed for years and was
full of rocks. Took me about 30 minutes. The owner was trying to do it with a weedeater. Sweat was rolling off him and ask me if there was an easier way to clean it off. I told him I had a mower that would do it. Some of the brush had to be cut with an axe. I showed him how to use it. He now keeps it mowed. Hal
