They were a hard sell back in the day, not only because of the price (for the price, you could buy a better tractor, plus a Ford car), but because farmers (in the bad weather areas especially), were ashamed to be seen on them, while their neighbors toiled in the weather on open station rigs. There were still some left unsold into the war years, when everybody quit making tractors to help the war effort. One guy on this board several years ago told how his grandfather desperately needed a tractor during the war, as his old one "gave up the ghost", and all he could find was a UDLX. He bought it, but traded it in on the first new tractor that became available after the war.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for �200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
