Nobody's answered the man's question though. Why not do the whole project with a torch and bronze rod? The temp would stay low, and the capillary action of the filler would get deep into the crack. I've brazed all sorts of cast parts including exhaust manifolds and such, with flux-coated bronze rod, and they've stayed fixed. Why not an engine block?
