have that problem on my friends 97 F-350 Diesel but when trying to use too large of a filler nozzel, problem was the large diesel filler nozzels are always in the truck isles and the small automotive nozzels are in the small isles at the stations where it is too hard to get a truck and long trailer into. I pulled/cut the cap and flap off the top of the filler neck so a large nozzle would fit in there and then made a pair of long needle nosed tongs to reach down into the filler neck (could use needle nosed pliers)and grab the inside filler hose and pulled it up farther so I can insert the large filler nozzel into it, this allows the fuel to not spill out of the hose and into the filler neck which prevents the tank from venting. Sounds like you are having the same problem.
