Ok, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this same problem. I have a 93 F-350 dually, front and rear tanks. I can't get the front tank to take gas at all and today I had trouble with the rear tank. I was told there was a flap of some kind in the fuel fill hose or something. I must admit its very annoying to not be able to get fuel in, running fuel out of the ground cause it runs over and all. Anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do about it. I'm going to look at it tommorrow and if there is any flaps in anything I'm ripping em out by the, well you know, lol

The problem is like was posted. The vent hose inside the fill hose has slid down or not put in correctly either when the tank was taken off or when new. If you pull that hose up by removing the fill line there is a place for the vent line to set at the top of the tank and then it will fit right I had to keep this in mind when I took the tanks out to fix them where they rusted out on my 86 ford diesel. never had a problem fueling.

I thought Ford would have had that fixed by now. My 1980 F350 has the same problem. Stan

Must be a common problem with furds. My dad had a 98 mercury sable that you had to drizzle the gas into. He found that it went a little faster if he put the nozzle about half way in, seemed to let the air out better or somthing.

I had a 85 1/2 ton ford 4x4 that I don't recall have any problems with. I swore I'd never own another Ford product but I got this one cause the price was right I guess it will just take a little southern engineering. My Chevy and GMC trucks don't give me a lick of trouble in fueling. Go General Motors!!!!!

have that problem on my friends 97 F-350 Diesel but when trying to use too large of a filler nozzel, problem was the large diesel filler nozzels are always in the truck isles and the small automotive nozzels are in the small isles at the stations where it is too hard to get a truck and long trailer into. I pulled/cut the cap and flap off the top of the filler neck so a large nozzle would fit in there and then made a pair of long needle nosed tongs to reach down into the filler neck (could use needle nosed pliers)and grab the inside filler hose and pulled it up farther so I can insert the large filler nozzel into it, this allows the fuel to not spill out of the hose and into the filler neck which prevents the tank from venting. Sounds like you are having the same problem.

have had similar encounters w/Fords... my guess is that you have a problem with the vent line that runs into the tank. If you take the rubber hose off of the steel filler neck, you should find a smaller vent line running inside the main filler line. If all that looks OK, there is also a vent on the top of the fuel tank... should have a line connected to it that runs to a point on the under side of the box. One way or the other, proper venting will solve the problem. HTH, D

Tank ventilation maybe? Sometime back I had to drop the 35 gallon tank in my '96 Dodge to replace the fuel pump/guage sensor. The tank was almost full as luck would have it, and couldn't syphon the fuel because at the base of the filler tube where meets the tank is a anti-theft strainer or one way check valve of sorts that will let fuel past, not a syphon tube. Lowered the tank the hard way...two guys straining for all was worth. Something happened to me yesterday with the kitchen sink that makes me think of it. Was running the water fast, and the sink started to fill up as though was clogged, but it wasn't. All that happened was an air bubble formed in the drain that wouldn't burp until I stabbed a knife into the drain where the strainer goes. It burped, water swirled right down. Or maybe in your case, if its cold maybe moisture froze and is blocking whatever device Ford might be using at the base of the filler for anti-theft, if they're using such a thing?

Just a guess. Can't think of anything else that would stop perfectly good fuel from going down a perfectly good hole.

Someone else can give it a whirl now. I tried.

I just thought of this, guys tell me what you think. I might try taking a block of some kind with me and pulling the truck up on it to get more angle. I said I never would buy another Ford product but this one was cheap and its in pretty good shape. $1650.00

I have a 88 F250 diesel flat bed with dual tanks. I turn the pump so its parallel to the ground and do a slow fill. I figure its the fact that the fill tube has little pitch. Once I hear it flowing I up the flow rate (squeeze the trigger). The problems not as bad on my 2000 F350 diesel but I have to keep my eye on it while filling.

I have that problem once in a while on my 88 F150 and I just have to leave the filler nozzle set back one or 2 clicks so it isn't flowing in so fast. helps to try and re-position it in the filler neck too. Sometimes it acts up because the nozzle is in it funny.

The upper portion of the fill hose runs very flat, so if the truck is on the least bit of an angle , fuel will flow back towards the opening instead of into the tank. When I switched flat beds on mine, I had to do some refabricating on the rack in order to get the fill spout high enough to overcome this design flaw.

There should be a small flat valve just inside the spout if you are using the proper small nozzle it should be no problem. It won't work with the old style large nozzle. Walt

I have trouble putting in fuel if the vechile is leaning toward the fill cap, just to level of a fill hose on top of the tank. but you might have other troubles.
