To Anyone who may be rebuilding an engine with a computerized mechanical distributor (regular distributor with a camshaft position sensor): IF using a new AFTERMARKET camshaft, the indexing of the distributor COULD be different from the original, non-adjustable indexing.
Just replaced 300 dollars worth of sensors to repair an erratic running 1995 4.0L chrysler inline six with a fresh overhaul. Turned out that the rotor was about 3/8 of an inch retarded from the number one cylinder at TDC in the preset indexing.
I hacksawed off the non-adjustable hold down and mounted the distributor correctly. Behold, no more running problems!
