My brother has a 26' IH model #45 field cultivator (I think that's the proper name for it). It has a wing on either side which fold up for transport. (The hydraulic transport system works just fine.) It is set up with two master hydraulic cylinders on the center section and one slave cylinder on each wing. The problem he has is the wings will not fully drop. The center will be at the desired depth and one or both wings will still be up out of the ground or only partially in the ground. One side is worse than the other, but neither side works properly. If a person holds the hydraulic lever back on the tractor and lets it "growl" a while, the wings usually drop more, but still not enough.
Apparently there is air in the lines, but it seems no amount of bleeding will correct the problem. Uaually after a time consuming effort to bleed out the air, the wings drop better, (still not right) for a while, but after a few series of up and downs, the problem is back, as bad as ever.
We have two neighbors who had similar models with the same problem. At times they worked at it so long, they had pumped five gallons of oil on the ground and still the problem persisted. Finally they each traded off their machines.
Is there some trick we are missing? We did not buy the machine new, but near as we can tell the entire system is as it was from the factory.
