I wonder if this was during the Durant era? I can't remember the exact years, but Durant created GM out of several independent companies. He lost control, came back, and then lost control again. He ended his days owning a bowling alley in Flint, Michigan. Quite a story, probably a lot of details will never be known. GM has been in a lot of businesses over the years, Fridigedare, Terex, Allison. I was visiting an Iron foundry in Ohio, and watched them pour a crankshaft in 20 ft long. I have no idea what it was for. At that time over 30% of the plant's production was for non GM business. Some was Ford and Chrysler.
