I've seen a couple of instances like that. Had an old guy down the road went and looked a skid steer the day before,checked out OK. Went back the morning of the sale and the old coot switched a couple of spark plug wires so it ran like crap. Bought it cheap,switched the wires back and loaded it up. Another time,two local brothers were looking at a corn picker. Waited for the crowd and auctioneer to get close. One of them looked down inside and said "look at that. There's a shaft broke down there. That's gonna be a bear to fix" The brother looked in and said "yep,I'll be darned". They bought it for next to nothing. Course there wasn't anything broke.
