I've seen a lot of auctioneers not even bother with shills - they just pull "air bids". I've caught one in Marysville Kansas doing that more than a few times. If the people bidding would pay more attention the shills/auctioneer wouldn't be able to pull that crap. Bid fast 3 or 4 times then suddenly stop with the shill or "air bidder" having top price then they go into their "confusion" act not knowing who had the last bid. Whenever an auctioneer offers to "let" you have it for your last bid you need to tell him to shove it and start the bidding over with real bidders.
