I beleive the gas gause sending unit is located just below the gap between the cab and box, or directly below the drain holes in the front of the cab. Water will pool up right on it and that gasket, if it was even installed right from the factory, will deteriorate and allow water into the tank. Not sure if that is your issue with the first one or not. Make darn sure that seal is good on that sending unit assembly, a few beads of silicone smeared in wont hurt. Very common problem on the trucks. Also is a common cause of rough running, that water does get in there, and will cause rough running cause of the water in the gas. Undercoat the tank, for get the rubber, but make sure that sending unit is sealed!!
