I use a Chevy 3500 Duramax/Allison to tow trailers at work and your assesment of "not a practical work truck is way off the mark. My only objection with the Chevy is that it is too high off the ground requiring changes/replacement of hitches to get the ball down where it should be and it's high to lift stuff into.
