I know that the owners of N's are zealots, and they have a right to their opinions, the N's were GREAT little tractors for the time period they were produced, BUT...the guy who asked the question is looking for a FUNCTIONAL 40-50hp tractor for an acreage...N's have the 3pt (which earlier IH's do not) and they have 4 cylinders (which earlier JD's do not) put they DON'T have live PTO or live hydraulics, you have to go to later series Ford's for that. The Fergusson TO-35 comes to mind, it HAS the live PTO, and SOME of the IH300 and IH 350 utilities had live PTO, others didn't. Just 'cuz that's what YOU own and LOVE doesn't make it the "Best All Around" anymore than being married to a woman makes her "Playmate of the Year" (Just make sure ya tell HER that she is!) Fer cryin' owt loud! Put a bit of yer personal prejudices aside and think about what tractors, old and new, fit the parameters....LIVE PTO, LIVE hydraulics, power steering, 40-50hp.... And remember, if we were talking firearms, guns don't kill deer, bullets with proper placement do!...So think about what RESULTS you want, THEN pick the tools to do the job. OK, soap box available fer next candidate....;-)
