There's a lot of good machines on the market. The things I would look for are how long the dealer has been around and how many machines are in his yard. If the dealer has a fairly big rental fleet is a big bonus if you need to rent an auger or concrete breaker or grapple, etc. When comparing buckets check if the steel is the same gauge and if one has a bolt on cutting edge is way better. Teeth that are level with the cutting edge let you dig and still leave a flat surface. Teeth that are a little below the cutting edge will dig slightly easier and save your cutting a little more from wearing but will leave grooves in some hard digging applications. As I've said before sit in it and try out a few different machines and make sure you can see the cutting edge of the bucket when it's flat on the ground. Do this with a smooth edge dirt bucket. I've heard that Cat machines and IR have replacable bushings for the bucket pivots which saves having to cut the old pivots off to replace them. Cat machines have a single joy stick for steering and hand and foot or both are available on other machines. It's what ever you prefer. Most machines that don't have a mechanical self leveling boom have a hydraulic self leveling valve available as an option. Look and see how easy it is to service or work on. Check speed of hydraulics as well. When I bought my machine in 94 there wasn't as many choices available. If I bought a new machine now, I'd be looking for a while doing comparisons and getting a demo of the ones I was seriously considering. Good luck. Dave
