Dealing on a new S130 with cab and heater, suspension seat(Maybe),hand and foot controls. Wondering what you ended up paying for a price, less sales tax. Also, is it better to get the buckets from a different source than the skid dealer, price wise. Right now I am quoted $23,000-cash price. Need some comparisons. Inly brand I am interested in is IR Bobcat. Thanks in advance.

We like NH also. We have a 170 with 1200 hours and haven"t changed or fixed anything except for tires. This is a 50+ hp machine and will be more than the 22k. I think the model numbers have changed, so I don"t know what matches up with the Bobcat you were quoted. Seems like a really good machine so far.

Seems a reasonable price for a new Bobcat. Is a GP bucket not included in transaction? The New Holland made Deeres and NH were great machines.I currently run a Bobcat 753 and Cat 236, I dont care for limited visibilty as well as safety interlock on Bobcat.Once capture bar is down press interlock button then you must move backward to get it to release.Second joystick control is lacking in "load feel". I also run a Cat236 machine is complete joystick control and takes a lot of getting used to, especially when reared on foot controls.I find when in muddy conditions with joystick control it is difficult to get non stuck side to move independent of stuck side.If ever you get wheel spin you would need to use bucket to get machine free.I added steel tracks and machine is a complete beast. Unbelievable difference.Machine has so much more traction it allows you to get further into debris piles when loading bucket, without wheel spin. As far as clearing brush and trees I can take down trees up to about 11-12" easily and bigger with more work. I would recommend a lot of "test drive" time before you purchase, make sure it "exceeds" your needs. Nothing worse then to purchase, and then wish you would had more HP or features.Good luck

Best skid loader out there would be a Gehl. Of course I have been working on them since I was 16 years old working at a Gehl dealer. Still got my Gehl skid loader I bought when I was 13 years old. I own 4 of them my hydro cat then a 4625 then new 5640 and another new 4240 and many more that have been traded in for new ones. These are just the current ones. My hydro cat I bought from a scrap guy that my grandpa knew. I was fixing one it one day and he stooped in and saw what I done to it and gave me back my 75.00 dollars.

Just took delivery last week of a Cat 297C. $75,000. But it is 3 times the machine of any Bobcat.

It will pay for itself in 6 months. It's been raining here all week, but I've still been working because of that tracked machine. Just finished a $12,000 job today that I wouldn't have been able to do with all the rain and tomorrow have to start another one.

$75,000??? Ya, I would have a hard time making the #"s work to justify that one. Best qoute so far is $22,000 , built as I asked.

I would stay away from the Deeres. Just generally a lot of problems, particularly in hydraulic lines.

I"ve always been fond of Case skidders but I think New holland owns these now. New hollands are nice, bottom line.

Bobcats are still good, i"ve ran an SL220 which has all those rollbar things and fold down "amusement park ride" protection bar. You have to hit the switch in order to turn the hydro on. I loved the A/C and the heat and the wiper with washer fluid. I HATED, absolutely HATED dumping in a truck- I just never seemed to get close enough. Often the material would dump right on the windsheild going up a tiny grade. The SL220 had the high flow hyd. button, and if you ask me, that is WAY too much flow. It is good enough with the standard hydraulic flow, and if you"re not careful with the levers and foot pedals, you will get to bouncing around and jerking. (it"s very funny by the way, I can get a good laugh out of that uncontrollable jerking)

I think you"ll find the Bobcat to be good enough, but you can"t beat the vertical traveling loader of the new holland.

Go New Holland. Also you wont regret spending the extra for the suspension seat.

I've had a Gehl 4625SX since '98- all hand controls. That is a personal issue. Rented JD and Bobcat before- I like feet flat on the floor and running everything with two hand levers. Now you can get Bobacts like that, but I don't like the bellybar coming down from in front on the Bobcat, nor having to punch a button every time I want to move after getting in. Again- just personal issues. Assume you are dealing with Arnold's in STC? Have you checked with Farm-Rite in Dassel? Biggest dealer in MN, great service, etc.

I have operated Case and Mustang skid steers, and I really like Case myself. The 1840 Case is a pretty good machine, but it isn't a current model. I know you said you only were interested in Bobcat, but you might go around and try them all before you buy, that way you can be sure you are buying the best for you.

When I worked landscaping we used a 773, and than that was traded for a S130. I really liked operating the 773, but when I bought my own skid loader I found a Mustang that was much cheaper and I liked it equally at the time. I have never regreted buying a Mustang. I use it daily and have never done anything more than change the oil and add fuel. Been using my 960 since 1999, has almost 3,000 hours of absolutly no trouble.
Dave, there is a Mustang dealer east of Princeton on highway 95. Crawfords. That is where I bought mine. Anyway, good luck on your purchase. I hope you get exactly what you are looking for! You will LOVE having a skidsteer loader.

There's a lot of good machines on the market. The things I would look for are how long the dealer has been around and how many machines are in his yard. If the dealer has a fairly big rental fleet is a big bonus if you need to rent an auger or concrete breaker or grapple, etc. When comparing buckets check if the steel is the same gauge and if one has a bolt on cutting edge is way better. Teeth that are level with the cutting edge let you dig and still leave a flat surface. Teeth that are a little below the cutting edge will dig slightly easier and save your cutting a little more from wearing but will leave grooves in some hard digging applications. As I've said before sit in it and try out a few different machines and make sure you can see the cutting edge of the bucket when it's flat on the ground. Do this with a smooth edge dirt bucket. I've heard that Cat machines and IR have replacable bushings for the bucket pivots which saves having to cut the old pivots off to replace them. Cat machines have a single joy stick for steering and hand and foot or both are available on other machines. It's what ever you prefer. Most machines that don't have a mechanical self leveling boom have a hydraulic self leveling valve available as an option. Look and see how easy it is to service or work on. Check speed of hydraulics as well. When I bought my machine in 94 there wasn't as many choices available. If I bought a new machine now, I'd be looking for a while doing comparisons and getting a demo of the ones I was seriously considering. Good luck. Dave

IR Bobcat sold out to the Koreans. My sister is in the marketing department.

But I have never, and will never, buy a Bobcat. I use New Hollands because they are a far superior machine. Even though I can get a very good price on a Korea-cat due to relatives being in the business, I won't buy one.

(Rant over.)

I think if the bobcat employess had a choice they would have told Ingersol-Rand to sell Bobcat to a US based company... I"m surprised one of the coal/power companies out of ND didn"t buy Bobcat..

You mean, soon to be former employees.

I'm sure all those jobs will soon be done in South Korea.

What hp is the 130? we use a ls160 and have put about 900 hrs on it with almost no probs. Just wrecked one hyd.hose for quick tach. Also had ls 140 for a few years. Put a thousand hrs on each and traded off. Great skid steers. Ride much better than most Korea-Kats ive used.NH has a wider/ longer wheelbase.

S130 is 46 HP. All I have ever ran for extended periods is IR Bobcat. Operated a new JD-Hated it. Ran a gehl in '89 or 90' ran from it. Use a new holland for cleaning cow yards at a freinds, not a bad machine , but am always worried about hitting things with the pivots of the lift arms behind the cab(it is an older one). Bobcat has a dealor only 7 miles from me so service hub would be handy. Will mainly be used for hauling Sh!t outa lower level of chicken barn(300 tons). Have to be able to move safely down sides between raised slats and nests, and be able to fit under raised feeders. So it cant be taller than a 753,S130,150,763. Otherwise will be used for normal farm use.

I don't think the NH boom will give you any trouble. I have an LS170 and it's been hammered about as hard as anything can be hammered. In 3000 hours the problems I've had to date include the bottoms of the final drive cases wearing thin at the back and leaking, and generally wearing bolt heads off the bottom since it's in the mud a lot and dragging.
I've also had to replace the parking brake/pinion shaft and motor shaft in the reduction case along with doing the drive chains while I was in there.
I'm not quite sure why but the bolt that retains the pinion shaft to the motor shaft came loose. If I had caught it first when it was rattling around the chain case it would have been a simple matter of replacing the bolt.... but I thought the noise was a rock between the wheel and the frame... so it ended up wearing the splines out from working loose. Small repair that got to be a large repair... Wheel bearing kits are the other gremlin with this one. Again, it's in mud and doesn't get greased as often as they should since I've got to pull the wheels to grease the wheel bearings.
Otherwise, hydraulically and enginewise it's been an excellent machine.
THere's a few little design things that NH could have done to address the shortcomings that I've had with it, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another all the same. From what I've seen of the competition that spends it's life standing on it's back door, or face planted with the loader in the air.... I'll stick to the super boom and deal with the litle things.

Rod

I too support the New Holland argument. You just can't beat the 4 bar linkage boom no matter how hard you try. End of statement. Try loading a dump truck with a bobcat and then with a New Holland. It may make your decision easier.
