: : Have two Farmall H tractors that were rebuilt within the last decade. Neither one runs worth a hoot in the winter and appear to be running too rich (lots of carbon in the exhaust stacks and sparks flying in the dark from burning soot). My family sold the farm 20 years ago and the tractors get only occasional use around the last 13 acres. I guessing they don't get enough exercise and my uncle who's 80 just get 5 gallons of gas from the corner station when he needs fuel. Any other suggestions?

: Put in the hottest spark plug you can find. A Champion D21 would be a good start.

hot plugs are a good idea but I would also remove, completely disassemble the carburaters making sure that every passage way of every kind is clean. You can also lean the mixyurwe with the screw in the bottom of the carb but then the tractor may not perform under heavy load conditions. New plugs will probably cure the problem for right now but the problem may persist without carb. adjustment
