I don't know too much on the internals of those saws, but I think there's a worm gear type drive in there that we've had go bad on a couple of them... and I think the 34 was one. I've never thought the 34 was very good as Stihl's go. The one we had was no end of trouble. I could be wrong on the problem, but I'd guess it's internal, or possible just some dirt in the oiler. Check that first, but if it's not moving any oil at all from the tank, I'd think the problem is with the pump.
