Did the math a few years ago when milk was 12 dollars cwt, and of course, that's before the farmer paid for shipping to the plant. Glass of milk- about 10-12 ounces, was about $1.25. If you leave a 15% tip, you just paid the waitress about $18 cwt. to carry that glass of milk to your table, while the farmer had to pay for the farm, the cows, the equipment, etc, and his family living expenses out of that $12. Isn't the basic job of a waitress to carry the food to your table? Do I tip- yes, but I figure the restaurant boss should pay his help enough when he charges eight bucks for a simple sandwich like a patty melt or a reuben, etc.
