I am in northwestern North Carolina,( Stokes County ) about 25 miles south of NC/VA state line and about 30 miles southeast of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I can get four cuttings from mixture of fescue, orchard grass and ryegrass with some summer annual weed grass species (crabgrass, barnyard, foxtail, panicum, and others, etc) filling in bare or thin spots by the late August cutting. Then good growth of fescue and orchard grass returning in cooler fall days. Granted, the August cutting can be light but you are better off mowing then and clipping any weeds before they make seed. Of course, four cuttings require PLENTY of rain. This year there has been very little since winter. First cutting is all that anyone around here made. And it was only about 60 % of normal. Hay is in very short supply here. I hope we get a couple of hurricane/tropical storm systems---AND SOON.
