Going to be 90 here today and last night I found no AC in my office. Started hunting around and found the condenser fan not running outside. Reached in with a screw driver and gave it a nudge to get it moving and it spun up OK and seemed to be making a dent in the room temperature when I went to bed. Got up this morning and it won't start spinning with another nudge.
System is a 1 ton split system heat pump by Trane. I would just pull the fan motor and go to the supply house, but notice on the wiring diagram that this motor also has a seperate starting capacitor. How can I diagnose whether it is the motor or the capacitor? System is making the condenser coil awfully hot so it seems to be working otherwise although it is probably on its last legs at ~10 years old. Just wondering if it makes sense to try to keep it running or call somebody to do the replacement.
