"40 miles from town" would take more than an hour travel time unless this guy drives like Bo Duke. If I was doing service calls, I'd want the same per hour behind the windshield as I could make slinging tire irons. This guy has to make a living too. "A good 18.4 x38 for $200"? Where? I'd like a few of them. $200 18.4 X 38 would just barely hold air and be about 25% tread MAYBE. A GOOD 18.4 X 38 will bag $300 to $400, maybe more. Guess it all depends on what you consider "good". A new tube is $45 or $50 MINIMUM nowdays. Pumping fluid in/out would take hour to hour-1/2 ste-up to clean up. Under the best of conditions, I wouldn't wrestle a tire off the rim and replace for under $100. Is it worth $600+? Maybe not. Does that sort of service cost that much nowdays? Most times yes. Can you find some fly-by-night tire guy who'll do it for less? maybe, maybe not. Solution? Buy a fluid pimp, tire irons, tire hammer, keep a spare tube on hand, buy any cheap used tires you run on to, and learn to do it yourself (which sucks by the way)
