nothing like a post about generic motors to draw out the b.s. artists. seriously, the 4.8, 5.3, and the 6.0 are better engines than gm has made since 1970. mpg will depend on the weight of your right foot. never driven a 4.8, but have driven the 5.3, and it'll wind tight. the 6.0 is long legged and sluggish like the 3.48" stroke smallblocks, and i guarantee that no current production truck v8, ford or chevy, in a comparible vehicle with similar gear :'s, will hold it's own with the 5.7 chrysler. with a trailer in tow, the 8.1 would, but at about 6mpg, for about 150,000 miles. thats about 60 grand worth of gas! if you can get 20 mpg (about what the ones with the d.o.d. 5.3's get) out of that tahoe, and drive 150,000 miles, you'll only spend about $18,000.
