Years ago when I was a kid we had that problem and it seems like we burned sulpher candles in the attic. Then made sure that all the spots they ould get in were plugged. Possibly a bat house out side would attract them. It would be a shame to exterminate them as they destroy a lot of insects. On the other hand you need to evict them as they can carry Rabies nd other not so nice things.
