Okay, in order to get a full nights sleep without my daughters in my room I need to get rid of the bats in the house. They seem to live in the attic unless they make appearances in the bedrooms at night. Any ideas?

Get the filthy creatures out. Some particularly nasty molds & bacteria grow in their urine & feces. As they have a high rate of metabolism and there are thousands of bats per attic. They are dropping several pounds of stinking waste per day. I suffered a chronic re-occuring resportory infection childhood until after I moved out from home.Or if I slept over at home. The infection would flare up during a regular cold or allergy session. I was finally prescribed a specific antibiotic after a culture sample, to kill off the bacterial pheumonia. I don't go into attics or sleep at home anymore either. 30yrs of on again off again coughing up green wads and sinous's stuck full of thick yellow snot. And another round of general antibiotics. Every gap or hole large enough to stick a pencil into has to be plugged. Leave a couple of exits with a one way flap.

Thanks for the suggestions. Never have seen why the hysteria over the bats but my daughters do get some worked up. They are convinced that any bat flying around is trying to kill them. Just as any rodent I want to get them gone, but still they aren't interested in me. I really don't want to kill them just want them to live somewhere else. I put a light in the attic last night and tonight I will set off a bug bomb there and again early tomorrow morning, then put moth balls up there. We keep mouse bait up there anyhow so maybe the bombs and moth balls will help that also. All the time keeping the light on. I have looked for the entry point and haven't found it. Old house.
Thanks again.

I don't have anymore advice than what has been given, but, I was hired to strip an attic in Omaha where they had LOTS of bats-you could smell the droppings in the attic-in an attempt to find and seal the hole. The animal catchers came whenever called to collect as needed. They said that a bat can get in a hole the size of a dime! Greg

burn some cyanide bombs (or raid the fummigator) in the attic, best to remove people first

I bought a build. once that had bats in a overhead storage aera. The previous owners told me they had tried ever thing in the world to rid of them and no luck. Since I was going to remove the overhead storage area, I wanted them gone. After reasearch and talking to numerous people, I found they leave the area at night, but not always everyone of them ever night. I could not see any area they could be getting in, so I set up and watched all around the build. and one night about 9:00 p.m. I stopped counting at 200 plus bats left the area. I also determined the best solution was to not kill them and as mentioned they drop before there wings spread, so I done as others had and took a 12 inch long piece of PVC pipe, heated the end to soften the plastis to wedge in the hole they were using, then sealed around the pipe so they had to exit thru the pipe and tied a womens nylon to the other end with the end cut out. They will drop out of the nylon when they leave but not be able to open the end to return. After a week, I had no more bats and then during the early winter, I used the spay expandable foam to seal the hole and have never seen any since. If you did not want to try this, I would use the bucket of water method that is mentioned.

To dispatch the ones in the house, strategically place several badminton racquets around the house- with practice, you'll get pretty good at knocking them out of the air. Its pretty good sport. Don't touch with bare hands- some are rabid.

Put moth balls in the attic and plug the holes they use to get in. We used moth balls at my parents house for years and have had no problems.

Not to make you upset or anything, but they have found some rabid bats in the Muskegon, MI area lately. So just as well if you don"t come in contact with the little beasties - handle with gloves, or something. You need to do a thorough inspection of your house, and find all possible entry points, and close them off. Screen, caluk, pieces of sheet metal, whatever, just close off all possible entry points. It is suggested that you close them off when bats are out of house, like at night when they"re put foraging for bugs, etc.

Yes. Look around the outside roofline of your house along the soffets espesially the corners. You will see the hole where they come in. Then hang a 5 gallon bucket one third full of water under hole. When a bat leaves his hole for evening feeding they fall slightly before they get there wings open. If the bucket is right there they will fall in the water. next morning go up and dump the drowned bats out, fill with water again and hang back up. continue doing this everyday untill you find no bats in bucket in morning. then as final cure go up and patch hole at dusk when they would be out feeding in case there are any that surpassed the water bucket. I did this in house we first lived in. Found about 40 bats in water first morning 30 the next maybe 5 the next and then 2 and then there were none for about 3 days at witch time I plugged the hole. When someone first told me that I thought how the hell am I going to find the hole but take your time and look closely espessially in corners and you will find it. We did not have a bat in the house for the next 17 years so it really does work.

Years ago when I was a kid we had that problem and it seems like we burned sulpher candles in the attic. Then made sure that all the spots they ould get in were plugged. Possibly a bat house out side would attract them. It would be a shame to exterminate them as they destroy a lot of insects. On the other hand you need to evict them as they can carry Rabies nd other not so nice things.
